Fashion begins in Chandigarh, where aspiring model Meghna Mathur (Priyanka) expresses her wish to go to Mumbai to her parents. While her dad (Raj Babbar) out rightly denies her permission, her mom (Kiran Juneja) is supportive. Against her dad’s wishes, Meghna leaves her house with dreams in her eyes to strike it big in the modeling world. But it is not a path of roses for her as she experiences some major difficulties in her initial days in Mumbai. But she gets a good helping hand with an old acquaintance, Rohit (Ashwin Mushran) an aspiring designer who assists big shot designer Rahul Arora (Sameer Soni). She keeps bumping into another struggling model, Maanav (Arjan) while making the rounds of modeling agencies for auditions. Meghna becomes good friends with Maanav and even starts sharing his apartment after she faces accommodation problems. Meghna gets noticed by India’s top modeling agency Panache’s top official, Anisha Roy (Kitu) who brings her to Panache boss, Abhijit Sareen’s (Arbaaz) notice. Abhijit gets impressed by her ambitious nature and go getter attitude. Panache’s face is Shonali (Kangana) but though very successful, her drug habit starts becoming a problem for her and subsequently for Panache. Abhijit decides to terminate Shonali’s contract and ropes in Meghna in her place. Soon, Meghna is everywhere – right from being the showstopper at the biggest fashion shows in town to fashion magazine covers to print ads to TV commercials. The overnight success spoils Meghna and the budding love relationship between her and Maanav also comes to an abrupt end. What happens after Meghna reaches the pinnacle of success in the modeling world and how her journey also invariably leads to the downfall of Shonali and what shocking things further await Meghna forms the rest of the film.

After Chandni Bar, Page 3, Corporate and Traffic Signal, Madhur has hit a master stroke with Fashion exposing the murky underbelly of the most glamorous profession in the world. Never getting preachy and avoiding stereo types Madhur efficiently handles the subject without getting judgemental even once. He has outshined himself in the technical department making Fashion is most slick product till date. His perfect casting also lifts the film to a completely different level. In fact one wouldn’t be surprised if Madhur manages to win a National Award with this film as well! Also, perhaps for the first time his climax is not dark where the protagonist ends up being a loser! The film has a bitter-sweet ending.

The screenplay by Madhur, Anuradha Tiwari and Ajay Monga peeks deep into the reality of the fashion world and touches every single aspect of the industry such as casting couch, gay designers, wild lifestyle of models who can’t handle success, backstage dramas during major fashion shows, manipulative head honchos and attitude problems of successful people. After holding the audience’s attention captive for a major portion, the screenplay tends to drag towards the finale moments. Niranjan Iyengar’s dialogues strike a chord.

Priyanka in the most challenging roles of her career, delivers the goods successfully. Kangana despite a short role ends up giving an award worthy performance. Even though it is her debut film, Mugdha Godse shows extreme confidence. Arbaaz Khan is good and so is Sameer Soni. Arjan Bajwa acts well. Kitu Gidwani is graceful whereas Ashwin Mushran is very like able.

history at the Oscars, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said the entire team of the film including musician A R Rahman have done India proud.

The Prime Minister "congratulates A R Rahman, Resul Pookutty (sound engineer), Gulzar (lyricist), and entire Slumdog Millionaire team for the success at the Oscars," a PMO spokesperson said. Singh said "they have done India proud".

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee also congratulated the Slumdog team on bringing laurels to India by winning the Oscars. The film bagged eight awards including two Oscars for Rahman for Best Original Score and Best Song for the song Jai Ho, which was penned by lyricist Gulzar. Pookutty, a sound technician from Kerala , won the Oscar in the Sound Mixing category. The movie also won the award for Best Film, Best Director for Danny Boyle and Best Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy.

Biography
Payal Rohatgi was born on November 9, 1982 in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, India. She is the daughter of Veena Rohatgi and Shashank Rohatgi. She has a brother named Gaurav Rohatgi. She was brought up in a middle class family and grew up in Ahmedabad in Gujarat. A computer engineer from L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad by profession. Payal studied in Udgam School.[1], Payal Rohatgi won the title of Miss Tourism World in 2001, against candidates from 65 countries. She was also a finalist at the Femina Miss India contest in 2000. These successes encouraged Payal to enter the entertainment industry and so she moved to Mumbai. She is approximately 5'6" tall, and her star-sign is Scorpio.
Modelling career
She started her career by modelling for popular brands like Amul, Nirma, and Nescafe. She gained attention after appearing in a television ad for Cadbury's Temptations Chocolates. Around this time she also appeared in music videos by rock band Silk Route and Indipop artist Kay Kay.
After her career in Bollywood took off, Payal has cut back on the number of products she endorses. However, she appeared along with cricketer Virender Sehwag in an ad film for Dabur's Lal Dantmanjan. The film was directed by Pradeep Sarkar(Incidentally both are somehow related to Vidhu Vinod Chopra as She acted in Munnabhai I and Pardeep Sarkar made Pareeneeta for him). She was also seen in an ad film for Eveready battery with Amitabh Bachchan which was directed by Pradeep Sarkar in 2006.
Bollywood career
Payal first appeared in Bollywood after performing in Harry Baweja's Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai?, a Hindi remake of the Hollywood teen flick American Pie. She shot into the limelight by doing some B & C grade small budget films, but seemed to have a change of heart as she realised that these small budget films were not of her sensibility as these films released badly and were shot badly.
She made her acting debut in 2006 as one of the lead characters in the A grade Bollywood film 36 China Town. The movie starred the well-known actors Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal. Later that year, she appeared in the critically acclaimed Corporate where, ironically, she played the part of an item girl.
In 2007, she had her first release with Priyadarshan's film Dhol, produced by the Percept Picture Company. She played a positive second lead character, paired opposite Arbaaz Khan.
In 2008, she was seen in a cameo opposite Ranvir Shorey in PNC film Ugly Aur pagli which was released in August 2008. In mid-September she signed on to another role opposite Irfan Khan in a TV18 film Dil Kabaddi. She will be playing the role of an aerobics instructor and sports a very toned, lean look in the film.

Sanjay Dutt moves apex court for permission to go abroad

New Delhi, (IANS) Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, out on bail, Thursday moved the Supreme Court, seeking permission to go abroad for the shooting of a film.

In his petition filed through advocate Hari Shankar, Dutt also sought release of his passport, impounded by the designated anti-terrorism court of Mumbai, to enable his trip abroad.

Dutt's passport has been impounded by the court as a condition for his release on bail, granted by the apex court, pending its decision on his petition challenging his conviction and six-year sentence for possessing illegal firearms in the run-up to the 1993 serial terror bombings in Mumbai.

On Monday, the apex court had refused permission to Samir Hingora, a Hindi film producer convicted in the bombings case, to go abroad.

Refusing permission, Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan said if he was so keen to go abroad, he should first spend the remaining term of his nine-year sentence in a prison.

Hingora, who has already spent a little over five years in the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai, was granted bail by the apex court earlier.

He was given a nine-year jail term by the anti-terrorism court of Special Judge P.D. Kode for supplying arms to Dutt through gangster Abu salem on the orders of Anees Ibrahim, brother of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim.

New Delhi, (IANS) Bollywood actress Amisha Patel, who recently broke off with her director-boyfriend Vikram Bhatt, was spotted with a tall, young man, rumoured to be her new boyfriend, on the first day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) here.

The actress attended style guru Namrata Joshipura's and designer duo Gauri and Nainika Karan's show Wednesday.

The actress, flaunting a bright orange knee-length dress, wasn't present at the WIFW for any specific designer or fashion show.

"I think all designers are equally good and I am not here for any particular designer," she said.

However, before she could complete her sentence, her new escort pulled her away.

The couple was seen cosying up during the show.

Arindam wants to create a market for good cinema

Management guru-turned-Bollywood producer Arindam Chaudhary whose recently released "Mithya" earned critical acclaim, said he wanted to create a market for good cinema by producing movies meant for niche audiences.

"I want to make some qualitative investment in Bollywood and make a market for good cinema," Chaudhary told IANS on the sidelines of the WIFW.

He also added that the frequency of visiting a cinema hall has increased among cine-goers, who also wish to watch good cinema.

The producer was at the fashion extravaganza to attend ace designer Rohit Bal's show.

"I am 24", "The Last Lear" and "Sunglass" - three films produced by his production company Planman Motion Pictures three films, are lined up for release over a period of three months, respectively in June, July and August this year.

Ayaan Ali Khan is not in a hurry for a honeymoon

Sarod player Ayaan Ali Khan, who recently married Neema Sharma, said he has a number of things lined up since his marriage causing a delay in their honeymoon.

"There has been a lot happening ever since our wedding, and a number of things are lined up. Our honeymoon will also fall in line soon," he told IANS.

Commenting on how it feels being married, he said: "It feels great".

The couple was spotted Wednesday at the Chivas Lounge set up at the WIFW here.

Sagarika Ghatge likes light make-up

Sagarika Ghatge aka Preeti Sabarwal of "Chak De India" fame says that she is only comfortable with light make-up.

The actress was present at the WIFW Wednesday for a make over at Salon Di Wills.

"I always use light make-up and that is what I asked Ambika (Pillai, a makeup artist) to do. I am happy with the results.

Commenting on the Ghatge makeover, Pillai said: "She has fair skin colour and sharp features. It wasn't tough at all to do her make-up. As instructed I used lighter shades like grey and black."

New Delhi, (IANS) With films like "Corporate", "Omkara" and "Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal", it has taken the unconventional looking Bipasha Basu about seven years to carve a niche for herself in Bollywood and she says she doesn't want to go and struggle again in Hollywood.

"Working globally is a tough thing. Offers are there but what will finally become a substantial offer and what goes into production is what matters," Bipasha, who was in the capital for the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, told IANS.

"India is a very comfortable place for us because we have already made a niche here. So why would anyone want to go and struggle there? I don't want to go and struggle. I have gone through my struggle," said the actress, who walked the ramp Wednesday for designer duo Gauri and Nainika Karan.

"If anything comes by, and if I'm lucky enough, I will. But it is not easy. It happened with Aishwarya Rai after six years of wanting to figure out doing global cinema. She has done 'Pink Panther', which is her first studio film. She has done those crossover films, Irrfan Khan has done it, but it takes time," she added.

After playing a Pakistani girl in "Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal", the actress returns to the celluloid in a completely new avatar. She will be seen in an action role and sporting a new hair cut in Abbas-Mustan's "Race". Releasing March 21, the film also has Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy.

Commenting on her role in "Race", Bipasha said: "I am playing a complicated character. In fact, each character is complicated in the film because it is a thriller genre. A lot is driven by each one's motive, so the plot is very interesting. They start off looking as predictable as characters, but as the story goes on, each character has all kinds of shades.

"For me, it was an interesting character, the story interested me and I love Abbas-Mustan, my first directors. Also, I was working with new kinds of actors, so there is a new chemistry - all in all it has turned out better than what I expected."

Bipasha said that technically this is her third film with the director duo. Her first film with them was "Ajnabee".

"In the middle we started doing another film, 'Mr. Fraud'. We did about 70 percent of the film. It got stuck in the making. But it is always a pleasure to work with them - they are very nice people, haven't changed.

"They understand the needs of a thriller. They are very tech savvy and use the best cameras and technical team. They are fantastic editors, so our film is very crisp."

The film is two hours and 15 minutes long. Bipasha says today's audience doesn't have the patience to sit through a long film.

"People don't have patience. They want to condemn anything that is lengthy even though for us it's a creative process. But we totally understand that it is very difficult to keep the attention of the people because the stress level is so high that everybody wants to see something relaxing and uncomplicated."

She says she is trying to create a balance between commercial and art house cinema.

"It is interesting for an actor to think about audience interest, but then I would not have ended up signing a film like 'Pankh'. I believe that I do have the intelligence to understand that I need to keep the balance between commercial entertainer and art-house; only then can I command different audiences."

In director Sudipto Chattopadhyay's "Pankh", Bipasha plays an imaginary character.

"I play an alter ego. I am an imaginary character - the protagonist in the film is a boy called Maradona, he has done a fabulous job. It is about a boy who goes through gender confusion."

Bipasha, who got a makeover in Madhur Bhandarkar's "Corporate", says she is curious about his next film "Fashion", which has Priyanka Chopra in the main lead.

"I'm curious about anything Madhur does. But I have warned him: please do not portray only negative things about the fashion world. I am from the fashion world and I know there are lots of good things you can highlight. It is a huge profession and it's a big business so the subject has to be handled responsibly. I hope he has done that."

Sonu Sood is happy not only with his role in the recently released Jodhaa Akbar but by the bond he has formed with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. Sonu, who played the role of Sujamal, the brother of Jodhaa in the film, says that ever since the film has turned out to be a success, both Aishwarya and Abhishek call him their lucky mascot.
“I had played the role of Abhishek’s elder brother in Yuva and the film was the turning point of Abhishek’s career. Aishwarya believes that I proved lucky for her too. After the film, they both decided to call me bhai sa (brother).

At the premiere of the Telugu version of the film, I met Aishwarya and Abhishek and both addressed me as bhai sa and I called Ash Jodhaa,” says Sonu. He adds, “We have developed such a good rapport that Abhishek believes that I am a part of the family. It feels so good.” Sonu has now signed UTV’s next project. “I can’t reveal anything about the project right now but very soon, I will let you know the details,” he says. “Right now, I am shooting for Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi opposite Isha Koppikar. It’s a simple story of a girl and a boy who wait for 10 years before getting married. They have to sacrifice a lot in their lives,” he says.

Amitabh Bachchan fails punctuality test, for once

Mumbai, (IANS) Punctuality has always been superstar Amitabh Bachchan's strong point. He is not known to arrive late for functions.

A stickler for punctuality, he makes it a point always to arrive at any public function on the dot so as not to inconvenience the organisers and people, who wait for him. In fact, when he is shooting for a movie, he reports on the sets before even his co-stars show up.

So, when he kept the media waiting for almost three hours Saturday at Cinemax at Versova in northwest Mumbai before he arrived to unveil the replica of his "look" in B.R. Films' forthcoming release "Bhootnath," reporters were shocked.

Bachchan walked in at quarter past nine for his programme scheduled at 6.30 p.m. Naturally, he apologised to the media, explaining that he was first held up by a shoot and then by the evening traffic.

The replica of his "look" in "Bhootnath" bore a striking resemblance to the one he donned for his role of Gabbar Singh in "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Sholay." He was flummoxed when it was pointed out to him and looked at Ravi Copra, the producer, seeking an explanation. Chopra said the "look" was perfect for the role Bachchan plays in the film.

In "Bhootnath," Bachchan plays a cantankerous grandfather who later becomes a partner in pranks indulged in by his seven-year-old grandson Banku (Aman Siddiqui).

The movie is about a child's innocent and unsullied love and how it can turn a foe into a friend.

Bachchan showered praise on Aman for his histrionic abilities. He said the boy was, in fact, the star of the movie and that he merely played a character called Kailashnath, who is endearingly referred to as Bhootnath in the movie.

The cast of "Bhootnath" also includes Juhi Chawla, Satish Shah, Rajpal Yadav and Tejas. Shah Rukh Khan makes a special appearance.

While referring to SRK, Bachchan denied any "bad vibes" between them. They have a few scenes together in the movie. "It is a media-created animosity. He is a friend," Bachchan said.

Written and directed by Vivek Sharma, music for "Bhootnath" has been composed by Vishal-Shekhar and the lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar.

An Indian Films presentation, it is scheduled for release on May 9 this year.

Mumbai, (IANS) Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta, who has been in the news for her ugly spat with director Shona Urvashi while shooting "Saas, Bahu, Sensex" in Pune, refuses to forget "the experience".

"I've taken enough rubbish from them all because my producers Warner Brothers are really cool. But Shona Urvashi has been a nightmare. I wouldn't even want to go there again. But she has been calling up the media, telling them I'm on drugs and that I am another Parveen Babi.

"Another Parveen? This is my 13th film. Please check with my directors and producers if I've ever been erratic in my behaviour. I think these people need to check their own mental balance," she said.

Tanushree goes back to the beginning of her stint in Pune. "I signed this film without knowing what I was in for. At first, things seemed okay. Shona was the producer and her sister Masume was also part of the cast (though it's another matter that there seems to be some kind of stress between the sisters). I've the main role. Their mother is the producer and father looks after the production. So it was all a family affair.

"I was the outsider. I kept my distance. But may be they didn't like the fact that I didn't party with them after work. But if I've an early morning shoot, I'd rather sleep and be fresh," Tanushree said.

Whatever the reason for their rancour, hell broke loose Feb 14.

"Shona harassed me continuously throughout the day. She'd pick on me for no reason. At first I laughed it off, thinking they were making a fool of me. But then I realised they were serious. I was made to say the same line for hours on-end. I wasn't allowed to go back to my van between shots.

"For 15 hours non-stop, they made me shoot, taunting, jeering and harassing me. The lights and air-conditioning in my van were switched off. It was a nightmare. They couldn't wait to have me back on the sets the next morning for a dose of the same treatment," the actress recalled.

Tanushree left Pune and refused to go back till the producers accompanied her.

"I reluctantly went back and shot Feb 19-20. But it was bad. The producers saw how bad it was and blasted the team wondering how an actress could work under such stressful circumstances. Shona insisted that she needed me for 10-12 days. The producers decided four days were enough. I went on the sets at the given time, tried to do my work and left."

Now there're just four days of work left and Tanushree wonders how she will go through it.

"It's a fantastic script but it was the worst experience of my career. Now I wonder if they were doing all for publicity. Shona Urvashi has directed one film before and may be she needed to get noticed. But this is not the way to go about it."

Priyanka needs time to move into dream home

Mumbai, (IANS) Priyanka Chopra's dream home is ready and the actress is delighted. But she hasn't moved in yet and will do so when she has the time to do it up herself.

"I'll have my house-warming party and move to my new place only when I return from Miami in July. My parents have shifted though, leaving me by myself in our old place," she grumbled good-naturedly.

"Last week my parents had a house-warming party for their friends. Since I had no time, I refrained from inviting any of my friends. Isn't that sad? We had to postpone our shift several times. We were supposed to move in last Diwali, but the interiors had to be completed," the actress told IANS.

Priyanka is house-proud. "It's such a feeling to own a home that I've watched come up brick by brick. Full marks to Suzanne Roshan for making my dream home a reality. I think her aesthetics are very close to mine. My parents' apartment and mine are adjacent (as they were in our earlier residence) and are so beautifully done. Both have been done up differently."

Since Priyanka is shooting non-stop to complete Madhur Bhandarkar's "Fashion" before rushing off to complete "Dostana", she can't pack beyond the stuff she'll need for her trip to Miami.

"But my mom is packing my belongings that I've accumulated over the years. I wish I had more time to enjoy this important move in my life. But I am free only in July after I finish shooting 'Fashion' and Karan Johar's 'Dostana'. After that, no more assignments for the time being and only then will I get some time to move in and enjoy my new home.

"Until then, I'll be happy watching my parents enjoy our new home. Their happiness means more to me than my own," she said.

Gurgaon, (IANS) Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan, daughter of cricketer Mansur Ali Pataudi and actor Sharmila Tagore, is likely to face legal trouble for concealing facts when she renewed her gun licence here.

Gurgaon district authorities indicated Tuesday that they would issue a notice to Soha Ali Khan, demanding to know why legal action should not be taken against her for her violation of legal requirements while renewing the gun licence. She is also likely to be questioned, authorities here said.

Soha Ali has been accused of concealing the fact that her rifle was being used by her father, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, and that he used that weapon to kill a black buck in 2005.

"We would serve her (Soha Ali Khan) a show-cause notice and ask her to appear before the investigating teams over a period of two weeks," Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Gupta said Tuesday.

The actress did not reveal crucial facts to the Gurgaon district administration while renewing the licence for the rifle that Pataudi allegedly used to kill a black buckin June 2005 in Jhajjar district of Haryana.

Soha's rifle was among the firearms seized when Pataudi was caught by the Jhajjar police with a black buck carcass.

Eight people, including Pataudi, were booked on charges of poaching wild animals. The case is being heard in an environment court in Faridabad.

Soha hid both the crucial facts that the gun was used by an unauthorized man in a poaching case and since then it was under the custody of police as a criminal evidence, when she applied for the renewal of the gun licence.

According to law, the license of the gun should have been cancelled immediately and a case for not keeping the licensed firearm properly should have been registered against the actress.

Animal rights activists also allege that Soha was a minor when a she got the licence.

Mumbai, (IANS) In South Africa, Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has woven a hypnotic web among the natives, says a business honcho from the country who is visiting India's commercial capital.

"He is bigger than any icon there. He has girls swooning over him and his fan following is bigger than any Hollywood megastar. South Africans just love him," Themba Ngcobo, president, Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told IANS.

"In fact, I am one of his fans myself and I have never missed any of his films, even though I usually see it with subtitles," Ngcobo said.

"Indian film stars have a huge fan following and the Hindi film market is also huge because the demographic concentration of Indians is extremely high," Ngcobo said.

Ngcobo is one of the leaders of the high-powered delegation from South Africa on a visit to India to attract investment and expertise.

Talking about trade tie-ups, Ngcobo says, "These kind of trade visits are important, but what I find surprising is that the joint ventures which we are seeking here will certainly follow. But the foundations of the joint venture was already laid down by your film industry."

The heavy presence of Indian residents in South Africa certainly boosted the Hindi film market, but the "recently-introduced sops and incentives to the Indian film industry have also taken the ties further," Ngcobo said.

According to Ngcobo, though the Indian film industry in the late 1990s had started looking at South Africa for shooting, the hosting of the International Indian Film Academy Awards in 2001 and 2003 helped make the Indian film industry aware of its potential.

"Today, a major chunk of films are being shot there and we will provide more incentives as well as streamline the process. Films are a part of culture and a strong one that can bind the two countries which had been exploited for centuries together," Ngcobo smiles before swaggering away Dutt style.

Hema Malini earlier told reporters: "I also do 'pranayam', yoga, stretching and exercise to stay fit. I also take lots of milk and milk products. In fact, all homemakers like me must dedicate at least one hour to themselves.

"I know all of them would instantly give an excuse that they do not get time. In that case they must get up one hour early and do yoga to avoid problems like joint pains.

"Also, women must set a target for themselves that they would not gain weight beyond a certain point. They must become a vegetarian but fast twice in a week. It helps one know the body better."

She spoke glowingly about her daughters.

New Delhi, (IANS) Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar and actress Sonali Bendre are set to be the judges for Sony Entertainment Television's new talent show "Mr. & Ms. TV".

The show is specially designed for the small screen glamour brigade and the most talented and multifaceted personalities will emerge winners.

Shonali Nagrani, who has previously anchored Star One's "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge", will be hosting the contest. The show will be aired on the channel March 24 onwards at 10 p.m. and will stretch over a period of two weeks.

The six women who will be competing for the title are Nausheen Ali Sardar, Aashka Goradia, Jasveer Kaur, Purbi Joshi, Priyanka Bassi and Shilpa Saklani.

The men who will be participating include Chetan Hansraj, Kushal Punjabi, Karan Wahi, Karanveer Bohra, Swapnil Joshi and Sanjit Bedi.

Chetan, who plays Sasha in Balaji Telefilm's "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii", is excited to be part of the show.

"I felt that the concept of the show is different and interesting. They told me that there would be a lot of dancing, singing, acting and other stuff, so I jumped at it. Besides, there were no hassles with the dates," he told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

New pairs of the celebrities will be formed for each episode and they will be asked to prove their mettle in singing, dancing, mimicry and voice-overs. The grand finale of the show will be telecast April 6.

Pritish Nandy in Rs.1.8 bn deal for animation movies

Mumbai, (IANS) Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd (PNC) has struck a Rs.1.8 billion ($45 mn) deal with DQ Entertainment (DQE), one of the world's leading animation and gaming production companies, to co-develop and co-produce six animation movies over the next three to four years.

Announcing the deal Wednesday in DQE's Hyderabad office, PNC chairman Pritish Nandy said that both the companies would later jointly work out the budget of each of these six movies.

"The movies will be in animation and live action. Each project will be announced separately and all of them shall be released globally," Nandy told IANS on phone.

Last May, PNC had also signed a five-movie deal with Motion Pixel Corporation (MPC), a Florida-based animation company that has its animation studios, Estudio Flex, in Costa Rica.

The PNC-MPC deal envisaged that all the five movies would be 3-D animated full-length Bollywood variety of movies with Indian and international actors.

Nandy had earlier said that the first of these movies was now in the final stages of production.

"DQE is a world leader in the high-end animation and film content space. The range and quality of its work has impressed us. We are delighted to associate with its talented team of 3,000 professionals," said Nandy.

PNC is also exploring gaming extensions for all platforms to be co-developed with DQE, including comic book spin-offs.

DQE has already collaborated with production houses in other parts of Asia, Europe and North America for 'Long Form Animation' for TV, home video and feature-length movies. Animation content produced at DQE Hyderabad facilities have been used by channels like BBC, Nickelodeon, Discovery, Cartoon Network and Disney.

T-Series accuses Ram Gopal Verma of extortion, cheating

Noida, (IANS) Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma has landed himself once again in a controversy as leading music company T-Series has filed a case of extortion, cheating and fraud against him.

The case was registered at the Sector 20 police station here late Tuesday.

Verma was booked under the charges of extortion, fraud, conspiracy, extortion, cheating and criminal breach of trust.

"Ram Gopal Verma had entered into a contract assigning Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-Series) music rights for 14 of his forthcoming films in June 2006," the company said here in a statement.

"The contract was duly performed and acted upon by both the parties and since then four out of the said 14 films, namely 'Darwaja Band Rakho', 'Nishabd', 'Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag' and 'Shiva', have been released by T-Series. The company had also made payments for the same and had also made advance payments for forthcoming films by Verma," the statement added.

T-Series spokesman Vinod Bhansuhali said Verma had tried to terminate the contract in November 2007 on grounds that were not acceptable to his firm.

"Seeing that Verma was acting unreasonable, the company in order to secure its interest and rights under the contract moved the district court of Noida Jan 23. The court issued notice against RGV Film Factory Private Limited and RGV Films Private Limited, asking them to appear and defend the suit," Bhansuhali told IANS.

"But Verma in his media interviews has been claiming that documents are forged and fabricated. He has not specified exactly which document is forged and fabricated," he added.

The T-Series reaction came two days after Verma filed a similar case of cheating and forgery, claiming that the music firm had duped him of over Rs.4.6 million.

Verma filed the case against T-Series head Bhushan Kumar with the Versova police station in Mumbai. The case was later handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for further investigations.

Mumbai, (IANS) Kareena Kapoor, who's been on a high since the release of "Jab We Met", finally started shooting a new film "Main Aur Mrs. Khanna" with Salman Khan. She says the idea of working with her "sister's co-star" makes her nervous.

"Although we've done Priyadarshan's 'Kyon Ki...' before, I always get nervous working with Salman. He was my sister's hero long before we were paired together. And now to be doing a film with him," Kareena told IANS.

Kareena started shooting Tuesday at Film City at the outskirts of Mumbai.

Kareena and Salman were expected to serenade to immortality in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani", but the film never happened.

She was also signed for Salman's home production "My Punjabi Nikaah". That never happened either.

Kareena chuckles in disbelief.

"'Main Aur Mrs. Khanna' is an intensely romantic film. I don't think Salman has done a pure love story like this before. Neither have I. Sohail is also in the film."

Interestingly, this is the first time in her distinguished career that Kareena will be working with a debutant director Prem Soni.

"He's very talented. It wouldn't matter even if he wasn't - I'm doing it for Salman," said Kareena emotionally.

He will be seen as Salman’s friend who was supposed to have been played by Ajay Devgan in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s film. Vipul Shah who doesn’t want to reveal the star cast of his film, however did not deny Salman Katrina’s pairing. “Right now only the draft is ready. By next week I'll be done with my casting. It will be directed by me and I have a few actors in mind but as of now, I have not approached anyone. I'll be in a position to reveal my cast only a week from now.” There has been an issue about the script, prior to all these developments. According to Raj Kumar Santoshi who had the rights with him, Vipul needs to take permission from him before the film actually goes on to the floors. We quizzed Vipul regarding this and he replied “There has been a lot of speculation about the film London Dreams. The original draft of the film was written by Rajkumar Santoshi, but I have my own personal take on the subject and so I have re-written the script.”

"How did this get out? It was meant to be a surprise!" This is how the Shaurya director, Samar Khan, reacts when being asked about Amrita Rao's presence in the cast of his second directorial venture.

"Amrita Rao is indeed in my film. Just how it happened is an interesting story. I didn't intend to cast her. But she's a dear friend, and wanted to be part of my film. So, I cast her in a very special role. I guess I'm blessed to have so many friends in the industry," says the journalist-turned-director.

Samar is all praise for Amrita's professionalism. "We were supposed to shoot only for a day. But that stretched into two days. Amrita gave the time without any complaint. Then she wasn't happy with her dubbing. So, she did the dubbing again. I love how focused she was even in her cameo. And not just Amrita. I had a dream cast in Shaurya; Rahul Bose, Kay Kay Menon, Deepak Dobriyal and Minissha Lamba…they all went out of their way to make sure Shaurya turns out to be a special film.

Katrina Kaif is currently riding high. After all, she was one of the most successful actresses of last year with her films Namastey London., Welcome and Partner becoming blockbusters.

The stunning looking actress has now reportedly bagged a 2-film deal with Studio 18 for an astronomical amount of Rs.6 crores.

While neither Katrina nor Sandeep Bhargava (CEO-Studio 18) denied this, they were not really willing to reveal much about the deal.

Katrina who has already worked in Studio 18's films like Welcome, Namastey London and the forthcoming Singh Is Kinng seemed excited at the prospect of continuing the association.

Karan Johar promises that his upcoming production has three Bollywood stars in a unique love triangle.

It is common knowledge by now that John Abraham , Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra are set to team up in Karan’s next production that will be directed by his trusted assistant Tarun Mansukhani.

Now, Karan has revealed some inside info about the film.

The movie will have Abhishek and John playing two thick friends. So, in keeping with the film’s theme, Karan has titled it Dostana , which was the title of the yesteryear film starring Amitabh Bachchan , Shatrughan Sinha and Parveen Babi that Karan’s dad Yash Johar produced in 1980.

Karan says the similarities between the two films end at their titles. Although his film also has a love triangle like his dad’s film, Karan says his flick has a “twist in the tale” that makes its story something that Indian movie buffs haven’t seen before.

Though the claim does sound a bit pompous, Karan stands by his statement and even goes on to say that John and Abhi are cast in very different roles in his film.

‘Dostana’ will be shot in Miami. The shooting locations have already been finalized by the director.
